Guiding Philosophy

The Board of Directors and Senior Management of the Drs. Paul and John Rekai Centre are guided by the vision of championing our residents to  live life to the fullest.  We are fortunate to be located in the downtown core allowing our residents to participate in the pulse of the downtown community.

Our goal is to encourage our residents to participate in outings* which take place a minimum of twice monthly.  These excursions can vary from our cultural program to sports to attractions within an hour’s drive of Toronto.

In the past, our cultural program has enabled the residents to visit the National Ballet School, Famous People Players, the Toronto Symphony Orchestra and to take part in art classes offered by the Ontario College of Art and Design (OCAD).

The sports program has included visits to the Marlies games, fishing spots as well as Woodbine Race Track.

Over the last year, our residents have toured the Niagara Festival of Lights during the Holiday season, the Whittamore Farm (I need to confirm this name) to participate in an old fashion hay ride, the Metro Zoo and Medevial Times to name but a few.

*Please note that outings typically require a contribution from the resident to cover the bus , any admission costs and meal while out of the home.

Programs offered in the Homes

Each and every day, the Manager of Programs and Volunteer Services in both homes along with their staff of Life Enrichment Aides offer programs in the homes.  These programs can vary from our version of the Olympic Torch Relay, to baking, to celebrations of various cultures to bands performing in the homes.  Visits by the pet therapy dogs are always welcomed!
